The Department of Finance has presented the Comcover Awards for Excellence in Risk Management for 2019, with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) taking out the top award.
Finance said the awards helped raise the profile and significance of risk management across the Commonwealth by supporting and sharing the promotion of best practice risk management
Assistant Minister for Finance, Senator Zed Seselja presented the awards at the Hyatt Hotel in Canberra.
DFAT was judged the winner of the Enterprise Wide Risk Management category, recognised for its outcomes advancing Australia’s international strategic, security and economic interests as well as supporting Australians abroad in complex risk environments.
The Department of Agriculture was Highly Commended in the same category for its management of risk through a risk culture program, developing a comprehensive risk management plan for the new Export Control Act and for workshops identifying and reviewing risks relating to its new Live Animal Exports processing schedule.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics received an Honourable Mention for its record of achievement providing statistics on government decision making and its impact on business and community.
In the Awards’ Risk Initiative category the Department of Defence Joint Logistics Command took out top prize for its project Defence Fuel Network which demonstrated a systematic approach to risk management of fuel storage and supply sites for the Australian Defence Force.
The Department of the Environment and Energy’s Climate Compass project was highly commended in the same category and the Department of Agriculture’s Grain Import Risk Assessment project received an Honourable Mention.
