Military veterans are to have access to week-long free public transport for Remembrance Day later this month and for Anzac Day next year.
Minister for Seniors and Veterans, Gordon Ramsay and the Minister for Transport and City Services, Chris Steel have announced that Canberrans would also enjoy free bus charter services to the Remembrance Day Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial.
Mr Ramsay said free travel during and in the lead up to the days of significance was just one of the ways to thank veterans for their service.
“Free travel during these periods will help to encourage and support veterans participating in commemorative events and recognise those who have served our country,” Mr Ramsay said
“We hope that this initiative will support our veterans at a time when we stop to recognise their contribution to Canberra and Australia,” he said.
Mr Steel said he was pleased to be able to offer veterans a free transport option during significant events.
He said veterans could travel free with valid identification from Monday 11 November to Sunday 17 November and from Saturday 25 April to Friday 1 May 2020.
Mr Steel said there would be no changes to other concessions during these periods, including for veterans who were already eligible for free travel.
