The Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) has renewed its education and training partnership with the University of NSW (UNSW), extending a 50-year relationship between the two parties.

Under the renewed partnership, UNSW will deliver tertiary education and training at ADFA for another seven years.

ADFA is a tri-service military Academy that provides military and tertiary academic education for junior officers of the Australian Defence Force in the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Force.

Minister for Defence, Senator Linda Reynolds said the continuing partnership would ensure the Australian Defence Force’s future leaders were equipped with a world class education and the rigorous and strategic thinking needed to tackle contemporary and future operations.

She said the partnership had made ADFA an exemplar in military studies.

“The university first began delivering educational programs at the Faculty of Military Studies at the Royal Military College in Duntroon in 1967,” Senator Reynolds said.

“This new agreement will reinforce and invigorate the strong partnership between Defence, the Academy and UNSW.”

She said the university would continue to provide the future leaders of the Australian Defence Force with the foundational knowledge and high-level skills essential for their military profession.

UNSW was founded in 1949, and has established itself as a leading research, innovation, industry engagement and teaching institution.
