New stamps look to the sky
Australia Post’s latest stamp issue, Cloudscapes, features various species and features of clouds, photographed across Australia.
Weather Observations Trainer at the Bureau of Meteorology, Paul Toomey said every cloud belonged to one of 10 main groups, called genera, and many were further divided into species and varieties.
The four types featured on the stamps are Lenticularis, dramatic saucer-like shaped clouds; Mammatus, the hanging protuberances, like udders, on the under surface of a cloud; Cumulonimbus, usually associated with atmospheric instability, and Arcus, low, horizontal formations appearing as a shelf or roll.
Charities prompt action
The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), has taken compliance action against two RSL charities, RSL NSW and RSL LifeCare.
The ACNC has entered into enforceable undertakings with both charities to address significant governance failures. This followed separate investigations into the charities’ activities and operations.
Both the enforceable undertakings cover a three-year period. RSL NSW and RSL LifeCare must provide quarterly reports to the ACNC on their compliance with their respective agreements during the first 12 months, and then provide annual reports for the two years after that.
Record year for visitors
The Australian Bureau of Statistics has announced that a record 9.02 million international visitors came to Australia in the year ending March 2018, an increase of 7.7 per cent on the previous 12 months.
International visitors also spent a record $41 billion in Australia last year.
China led the record breaking surge, overtaking New Zealand to become the largest source of international tourists.
There was also strong growth from the United States, with a record 9.2 per cent increase in US visitors during the past 12 months.
