The Transport Canberra and City Services Directorate (TCCS) has advised motorists and other users of the Tuggeranong Parkway of off-peak lane closures at the Molonglo River bridge crossing in coming weeks.
TCCS said the works were part of the Australian Government’s Bridges Renewal Program, an initiative to improve the productivity and safety of heavy vehicle operations through upgrading bridge load capacities.
“Works include the construction of four new concrete bridge piers beneath the existing bridge deck and strengthening of the existing piers,” the Directorate said.
“It will enhance access for local communities and facilitate higher productivity vehicle access (particularly B-Doubles) to travel along this section of the route improving their access to south Canberra.”
It said works would commence this month and run until the end of the year.
It said the majority of works would be undertaken beneath the bridge, without any impact to traffic travelling on the Tuggeranong Parkway.
“However, portions of the work will require lane closures to ensure safety of workers,” it said.
TCCS said Off-peak lane closures had begun and would occur on weekdays within the following dates: now until Wednesday 16 October; Monday 21 to Tuesday 29 October; Monday 18 to Friday 29 November.
