The Council of Australian Governments’ (COAG) Australian Data and Digital Council is to establish a National Disability Data Asset to trial a united approach to assisting people with disabilities and their carers make informed choices concerning their services.
Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme, Stuart Robert said the agreement paved the way for a Federation-wide view of the lived experience of Australians with disability.
“A pilot of the Data Asset will commence with data from the Commonwealth, NSW, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia,” Mr Robert said.
“The Commonwealth will provide up to $15 million to fund the pilot. Part of the funding will be used to work with people with disability to inform how the Data Asset will be used.”
He said the Data Asset would give the Government the insights it needed to better understand and address the challenges facing Australians with disability.
Mr Robert said that alongside disability data reform, the Council also found consensus on the national effort to drive forward improvements in Government service delivery.
“There was agreement on a new national approach to improving Government services through focusing on key ‘life events’, such as having a baby or looking for work,” he said.
“This outcome-oriented approach will help Governments deliver customer-focused solutions, removing complexity for citizens.”
Last month (August) COAG agreed to elevate the Australian Data and Digital Council to a formal COAG Council.
