Young women students between 12 and 18 are being encouraged to apply for grants of up to $2,000 to enhance their skills and participation in decision-making and leadership activities.
The grants are part of the 2019 Audrey Fagan Young Women Enrichment Program and applicants must be undertaking study in the ACT.
Minister for Women, Yvette Berry said the grants were designed to enable young women to develop and enhance their skills in an area of interest.
“Young women that have previously received grants under this program are already demonstrating enhanced skills that are supporting them to achieve their life-long goals,” Ms Berry said.
“One of last year’s grant recipients, Caitlyn Crick (pictured) is using her funding to undertake training on a powered aircraft.”
She said Ms Crick hoped to achieve her first solo flight before her 16 th birthday and expected the training would contribute towards her long-term goal of becoming a career pilot.
Ms Crick said the Audrey Fagan Grant was an incredible opportunity which allowed her to achieve something she never thought possible.
“The concept of a 15-year-old girl flying a plane by herself seemed so foreign to me until this amazing opportunity popped up,” Ms Crick said.
“I would encourage any young woman out there to make the most of this to achieve her dreams.”
Grant applications can be made at this PS News link and close on 19 August.
