Two bus depots have been visited by NSW police for compliance checks in the past week following a serious crash at Parramatta.

Police from the Joint Traffic Task Force joined inspectors from Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) to conduct the audits at bus depots in Hoxton Park and Smithfield.

Assistant Commissioner, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Michael Corboy said that due to the important work local buses perform daily, it was imperative they be safe and compliant.

According to Assistant Commissioner Corboy, 13 buses were inspected at the Smithfield depot with three minor defect notices issued. All buses were compliant when brake tests were conducted.

He said 16 buses were inspected at Hoxton Park depot with seven minor defect notices issued and one Traffic Infringement Notice (TIN) for a defective tyre.

“The Joint Traffic Task Force will continue to respond to any major heavy vehicle crashes involving trucks, buses, and other large vehicles to ensure those fleets are being driven, serviced, and managed safely on our roads,” Assistant Commissioner Corboy said

“No matter who the operator is, we will continue to conduct these sorts of operations and make no apologies for detecting and prosecuting any offences that put lives at risk,” he said.
