IP Australia has released a new toolkit for potential inventors and patent holders advising them on the engagement of a patent attorney.
In a statement accompanying the toolkit, IP Australia said the patent process from application to grant could often be an uncertain and daunting journey.
“For first-time applicants, engaging an attorney can greatly increase the chances of success,” IP Australia said.
“This toolkit explains the basics to get you started, your first tasks, and detail on how to engage an attorney for your project, so you feel confident in navigating your next steps,” it said.
“That’s why we’ve developed the Engaging an Attorney toolkit.’
It said some of the features in the toolkit included the top six myths about getting a patent; a visual diagram to help users decide whether they needed a patent; and what to expect from the first meeting with an attorney.
IP Australia is an Agency of the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science established to administer intellectual property rights and legislation relating to patents, trade marks, registered designs and plant breeder’s rights in Australia.
