The Australian National University’s (ANU) Crawford School of Public Policy has launched a new strategic plan to guide its operations until 2023.
The plan sets out a clear direction that emphasises focusing on and developing the school’s major strengths — world-class research, outstanding education, and strong public engagement in the policy issues affecting the world.
The plan highlights three key themes for the school — sustainability, integrity, and capability.
Outgoing Chancellor of ANU, Gareth Evans said the plan laid down strong foundations for what it described, with encouraging ambition, as the “next stage of [its] evolution as one of the elite public policy schools in the world”.
Director of the Crawford School, Helen Sullivan said the plan represented more than two years of work with extensive consultation of staff, students, and external stakeholders.
“This is a proud moment for the school,” Professor Sullivan said.
“This strategic plan is a clear vision of where we are now as a school, and where we are going.”
She said society was facing some “really significant” challenges.
“To answer those challenges will need scholarship of the highest standards, and students qualified to tackle the big issues and find solutions,” she said.
“We have that at Crawford, and our students are those people.”
The launch of the plan was attended by around 250 people drawn from the Public Service, non-Government organisations and academia.
