Proposals to “right-size” the Malaysian Public Service will not affect the 1 per cent employment quota set aside for persons with disability (PWD), Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (pictured) has promised.
She said the Government would continue to preserve posts for PWD and would aim to recruit more.
Dr Wan Azizah, who is also Minister for Women, Family and Community Development, said it was her fervent hope that all PWD were supported and encouraged to participate in shaping the nation’s development.
“Our plan is to fill up the quota for the PWD in the Civil Service, and we have taken measures towards this end,” Dr Wan Azizah said.
“There are currently still empty posts, so we want the positions specified for the PWD to be filled up first.”
She said that as of the end of 2018, almost 3,800 PWD, or 0.031 per cent of the workforce, had been appointed to a range of positions in the Public Service.
Dr Wan Azizah also revealed that her Ministry had surpassed the 1 per cent target, with PWD taking up 144 of the 8,138 posts available.
“The Defence Ministry came in second with 0.98 per cent of posts filled by PWD, while the Terengganu State Secretariat Office is in third place at 0.97 per cent posts filled,” she said.
Meanwhile, PS employees can now take a 15-minute break during working hours to do light exercises.
Department of Public Service Director-General, Borhan Dolah said workers could opt for brisk walking, walking up and down the stairs, star jumps or exercises with music.
Datuk Seri Borhan said employees could choose to take what would be known as x-breaks in the form of a complete 15-minute break or stagger it for three sessions of five minutes each.
“These x-breaks could be done in groups or individually,” Datuk Seri Borhan said.
“Workers need not change their attire when they do the light exercise.”
