Work has begun on upgrading Tuggeranong’s Kambah Village.
Minister for City Services, Chris Steel and Murrumbidgee MLA, Bec Cody turned the sod to start of the Village’s Stage Two upgrades saying the latest developments would involve the existing grassed area being replaced with new irrigated grass, with the area becoming a shaded common green gathering space with 31 new trees, gardens, a barbecue shelter and picnic settings.
Mr Steel said existing trees would be replaced by deciduous exotics which would provide summer shade and a sunny space in winter.
“There will be a number of upgrades to the existing playground, with new play equipment such as a basket swing, slides, a climbing frame and trampolines as well as a new shade sail to cover high-use play areas,” Mr Steel said.
“Other improvements include new toilets, more seating, upgrades to pedestrian lighting and pavements, additional parking at the south-east edge of the shops and an enclosure for the commercial bin area.
Ms Cody said the upgrades would also be complemented by the private redevelopment of the shops, which included a major extension to Woolworths, with a new covered northern entranceway.
“Construction is also under way on the jointly funded urban waterways project with a pond being built adjacent to the shops,” Ms Cody said.
The Village upgrades follow Stage One of the works which finished in August 2017 and delivered new paving, planting beds with trees and shrubs, and furnishings such as seats and bins.
