Applications are now open for a new round of grants to support projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability, Shane Rattenbury said last year’s inaugural round of the ACT Community Zero Emissions Grants Program had been a success.
Mr Rattenbury said the grants helped a range of projects, including behaviour change, sustainable building techniques, composting, recycling and transport.
“The latest round of grants will again enable non-profit organisations and individuals to apply for up to $25,000 in funding, with a total of $150,000 available this coming financial year,” Mr Rattenbury said.
“The ACT is leading the nation putting in place ambitious clean energy and zero net emission targets.”
He said the recent community engagement on the development of the ACT’s next climate change strategy resulted in a high level of interest from Canberrans, with more than 900 people contributing to forums and polls and the website receiving more than 2,500 individual visitors.
“We are fortunate to live in a community which is coming up with innovative ideas to transform Canberra into a more sustainable city across the energy, transport, building and waste sectors,” Mr Rattenbury said.
“These grants help us to work alongside our community to reduce our emissions and inspire changes in the way we think about the environmental impact of our city and our everyday behaviour.”
