Mention Western Australia and immediately we think of Perth/Boorloo. Why not break free from routine, get away from the well known and well trodden, and reconnect with something unspoilt — even a little wild — in WA. Trade in the mundane for something novel, beyond the capital.

Begin with art and culture. Experience otherworldly phenomena and majestic landscapes, awe-inspiring wilderness and boundless natural adventures. Nature and wildlife, Aboriginal cultural experiences, eating and drinking, beaches and lakes, and hikes and trails. Encounter the romance of the open road on an epic adventure across WA’s captivating landscapes.

Start in Perth, Australia’s sunniest capital and a thriving cultural hub. The city’s natural attractions and imaginative dining scene make it an idyllic introduction to your trip.

Head south for dramatic coastlines dotted with welcoming wineries and ocean-side walking trails. Out east, you can immerse yourself in the outback charm of Kalgoorlie (Karlkurla), journey through seasonal wildflower fields, or go north to see the rugged beauty of the Kimberley.

Tourism Western Australia has many suggestions to plan your visit, with itineraries for road trips, day tours or weekenders from Perth, Fremantle, Herne Hill, Northbridge, Kalgoorlie, Merredin, Broome and Exmouth. What about Margaret River surfing?

Gather your friends for a fabulous festive night out in Subiaco, track down stunning murals and Christmas lights, and visit two fantastic venues for food and drink. Oh Hey WA! has partnered with See Subiaco to re-experience this favourite local destination, and join a guided walk of the Subiaco Art Discovery Trail. This fun night out is the perfect way to celebrate the silly season. Find stunning murals, soak up the magic of the Christmas light installations and visit two fantastic venues for delicious food and drinks. These tours are anything but ordinary!

Visit: Discover major places of interest in Perth, and Rottnest Island attractions.

Why not stay in Perth and uncover Rottnest Island? A lot is on offer, from wineries and beaches to wildlife and delicious food. Stay at the Novotel Langley Perth. See the whole of Rottnest (Wadjemup) in a day with return ferry transfers, bike hire, a ”Cray Dog” from The Lane filled with western rock lobster, and a scoop of Simmons ice-cream. Visit the island’s most spectacular locations and get acquainted with the cheerful locals — yes, the quokkas.

This Flight Centre deal expires on 28 February, 2026. The holiday package is available for selected travel until 30 June, 2026.

Having too many options is overwhelming, so create your bucket list and gradually check off items, like I’ve done. On the tip of the North West Cape, Exmouth is the ideal base from which to explore the World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Marine Park and Cape Range National Park’s 300 kilometres of pristine coastline. Head to Exmouth after touching down in Learmonth.

Where the red desert meets the turquoise ocean lies Australia’s largest fringing reef, Ningaloo Reef — your entry to the most exhilarating marine adventure on the planet. It’s one experience that not only brings you closer to nature, it immerses you in another world!

Excise a section on pure-white beaches, cool off in crystal-clear lagoons and make a splash at Turquoise Bay snorkelling, exquisite coral gardens swarming with a kaleidoscope of reef fish.

Treat yourself to a sundown indulgence. Sea West has unveiled two decadent seafood cruise experiences: a sunset dining journey around Mandurah, an hour’s drive from Perth, and a multi-course feast at Rottnest Island, 90 minutes’ by ferry from Perth.

Treat: Enjoy lavender-infused treats at Lavender Estate, 50 minutes north of Perth.

Lavender Estate is WA’s largest lavender farm, which is in full bloom from December to February, transforming into a purple paradise. Just 50 minutes north of Perth, it showcases thousands of French and English lavender plants creating perfumed rows stretching towards coastal horizons.

Wander through fragrant fields and learn lavender cultivation secrets while filling baskets for bouquet-making workshops. The estate’s cafe serves lavender-infused treats, from scones to ice cream, paired with panoramic views across purple fields. An on-site distillery demonstrates essential oil extraction, while the gift shop stocks handcrafted soaps, candles and culinary lavender products.

Taste your way through Swan Valley, WA’s oldest wine region. Lose yourself in the lunar-like landscapes of the Pinnacles. Stop dreaming of historic Fremantle (Walyalup) or Mandurah’s (Mandjoogoordap’s) pristine beaches.

Hit the open road through the Margaret River Region and beyond along the South West Nature and Wine Drive. A spectacular coastline is the backdrop to this road trip adventure. Traverse towering forests, stand in the stillness of ancient caves, and enjoy premium wine and delectable local produce.

There are almost limitless options for every holiday need. When it comes to travel planning, sooner is the better option.
