The Western Australian Government has secured the 2026 AusCycling Road National Championships in Perth for the second year running.

Supported by the government through Tourism WA, the five-day program runs from 7 to 11 January and brings tens of thousands of cyclists to Perth.

About 50,000 fans came to the last championships, in Kings Park, Northbridge and the CBD, where a Perth native, Luke Durbridge, won his second national title.

The 2025 titles drew more than 5000 out-of-state visitors, generating an estimated $9.4 million for the WA economy.

The next championships, like the last, are expected to inject millions into the WA economy, with international broadcasts set to show off Perth as a destination for global sporting events.

“Our government is committed to ensuring high-profile sports events are available in WA, inspiring Western Australians to be fit and healthy, and allowing a chance to showcase what Perth has to offer,” Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti said.

“This prestigious event will bring thousands of elite cyclists to Perth, boosting our local economy and continuing to build WA’s reputation as a host of world-class sporting events.”

The government said the cycling challenge was part of the state’s strategy to diversify the economy and draw major events, providing a boon to local businesses and industry. Similarly, the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne is a regular fixture on Victoria’s sporting calendar and brings millions in revenue to the state, a winning strategy for the budget.

Tourism Minister Reece Whitby said: “Securing the AusCycling Road National Championships strengthens the Cook Government’s commitment to create a diverse, year-round events calendar to continue driving visitation and generate valuable tourism dollars for local businesses and industry.”
