The Whitsundays region is inviting you to escape winter and head to a Queensland destination where there are more than just the 74 islands, the Great Barrier Reef and Whitehaven Beach. The mainland is an easily accessible staycation where natural beauty, a slow pace, laid-back living and tranquil surrounds happily converge.

Start the Whitsundays journey in Airlie Beach, the vibrant coastal paradise. Stroll the waterfront, discover local dining or set sail from the marina. Your escapade begins here. Swim at the Airlie Beach Lagoon or Boathaven Beach. Browse the main street boutiques and markets, hike in Conway National Park or stroll along the boardwalk.

Looking for family-friendly Airlie Beach accommodation with loads of activities? Then slide into vacation mode at BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort, with a waterpark, mini golf, an animal farm and more. This is one big holiday destination in itself.

We found our four days surpassed expectations at the resort’s 10.5 hectares of landscaped tropical gardens. It kept the whole family (young and old) entertainingly occupied for most of the days – and we still were not able to sample even half of the attractions!

We savoured memorable experiences, endless fun for everyone, unending amusement, boundless entertainment, and the continuous and expansive nature of the excitement. We still cannot forget the sense of exceptional enjoyment and wonder associated with that mini-break!

As one of the largest resort waterslide parks in Australia, this one at the BIG4 has an exciting, diverse range of 13 colourful waterslides that take the resort to a whole new level of family entertainment. Built especially for young families, the slides come off a two-metre-high platform and are linked by bridges and stairways. This aquatic park area is equivalent to an Olympic swimming pool and features vibrant slides in a rainbow of red, blue, yellow, orange and green. A massive tipping bucket sits at one end of the pool.

To ensure toddlers are also enjoying themselves, there are entertaining smaller features in the shape of a frog and octopus. Comfortable sun loungers are positioned for parents to relax nearby while keeping a watchful eye on their water babies.

Children enjoy the kaleidoscopic array and merriment found everywhere. The panels around the monster fun waterslides have been decorated with gorgeous artwork of ‘’Gavin’’, the resort frog mascot, enjoying Whitsunday activities. The frog can be found jet skiing, fishing, sailing, hopping on a Segway tour along the bicentennial walkway, jumping on a fast boat to Whitehaven Beach, snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, and even flying high above Heart Reef in a seaplane!

Known for its large lagoon-style pool, the biggest in Airlie Beach, waterslides and other child-friendly amenities, the resort offers a variety of accommodation options, from tropical landscaped campsites, caravanning and purpose-built dormitory-style accommodation for groups through to self-contained studios, one-, two- and three-bedroom cabins and luxurious condos.

There’s never a dull moment. You can choose from the outdoor cinema, tennis, mini golf, two giant jumping pillows, pedal karts, Kermit’s Kids’ Club, a poolside massage … and considerably more.

Families can also explore the nearby Great Barrier Reef, go on thrilling water-sports journeys or simply unwind on the beautiful beaches. The resort also offers easy access to the stunning Conway and Dryander national parks. These natural wonders provided us with an opportunity to explore and immerse ourselves in the pristine beauty of the region.
