If “eating delicious food is the best kind of therapy,” then it’s also the “foundation of genuine happiness”. Unquestionably, laughter is brightest in the place where there’s delectable sustenance. Get a taste of paradise with an indulgent lunchtime experience when the Whitsundays’ most iconic long lunch event returns on 12 and 13 September.

Think about “Food, Glorious Food” and — unlike the song from the musical Oliver! — we should contemplate the importance and enjoyment of food in a more practical way. My acceptance of this special luncheon invite was instant when, Beatrice, a close friend, exclaimed: “Je t’invite a dejeuner!” The buzz of anticipation is now building, eagerly anticipating our noontime rendezvous!

In Australia’s own little slice of island heaven, a popular event in the Whitsundays, White on Whitehaven long lunch returns to the world-famous Whitehaven Beach.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Whitsundays, Tim Booth, this event is fast becoming one of the most sought-after experiences in the Whitsundays.

“With its winning combination of iconic Whitehaven Beach, locally sourced seafood, and premium beverages, it continues to draw visitors from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne year after year,” Tim said.

This catered lunch event, held since 2009, is known for its unique outdoor setting and elaborate food arrangements. This year there are new flavours, fresh experiences and a splash of island luxury.

Presented by 74 Islands Distillery and Fish D’vine Catering, this ultimate bucket-list Whitsundays experience invites attendees to don their finest white attire for an unforgettable day of barefoot luxury, premium dining and vibrant live music. It’s all set against the stunning backdrop of the turquoise Coral Sea and the pristine white sands of Whitehaven Beach.

Relax, swim, explore. Whitehaven Beach is a seven-kilometre stretch of sand known for its 98 per cent silica sand, which gives it a soft, white appearance.

General manager of 74 Islands Distillery Glenn Hitch said: “What better way to savour the essence of the Whitsundays than by sipping a 74 Islands Distillery cocktail on Whitehaven Beach, made with pure Whitsundays rainwater? This is as close to tasting paradise as it gets!”

The naming sponsor partnership will see 74 Islands Distillery featured throughout the event — from welcome cocktails to a show-stopping gin-cured Atlantic salmon dish as part of the culinary line-up. Live music will be provided by Hot Potato Band, a high-energy, seven-piece brass collective from Sydney known for their interactive performances and infectious festival vibes.

The day begins with a scenic cruise through the Whitsunday Islands, before invitees step ashore onto Whitehaven Beach where the iconic sands are transformed into an open-air, oceanfront restaurant. Greeted with Taittinger champagne, freshly shucked Coffin Bay oysters, salmon sashimi and exquisite canapes, the lunchers will embark on a culinary adventure curated by Fish D’Vine chef/owner, Kev Collins, and team.

New in 2025, the menu will feature returning crowd favourites and exciting new additions, including:

  • 74 Islands gin-cured Atlantic salmon
  • Local tiger prawns and bugs
  • Barramundi fillets
  • Char-grilled spatchcock
  • Iconic melt-in-the-mouth Wagyu beef fillet.

The buffet-style lunch is served under a breezy white marquee, paired with a premium beverage package featuring Taittinger champagne, Australian wines, premium beers, cocktails and soft drinks. The afternoon is set to finish on a high note as roaming wait staff (often waist-deep in the water!) carry around trays of fresh tropical fruit and indulgent desserts. All this while the music plays on and the sun dips low.

“Go figure, we showcase the best local and Australian seafood on Australia’s most famous beach, surrounded by pristine ocean — and our beef steals the show every year,” Kev said.

Gourmet. Extravagant. Sumptuous. This is one lunchtime where the flavour is always in full bloom. Without a doubt, there’s a high degree of indulgence and opulence in this planned, extravagant noon get-together!
