Two Australian companies have partnered to create mixed-reality simulations to change healthcare training for defence use.
Health services company Aspen Medical and mixed-reality simulation developer BlueRoom are working together to improve critical skills, maintain readiness and reduce costs in training first responders and other medical professionals in emergency scenarios.
Aspen Medical operates worldwide to train defence forces for medical readiness and effectiveness. Trainees will use BlueRoom’s mixed-reality simulations to interact with real objects using their own hands within a digital space in settings that may be expensive or difficult to create naturally, such as an aircraft or in the field.
“Training in real-world military environments can be costly and logistically challenging,” Aspen Medical chief partnerships officer Al Martin said.
”Our collaboration with BlueRoom allows us to bridge that gap, offering high-fidelity, scenario-based training that enhances medical competencies in a highly efficient and scalable way.
“This technology allows military medics and healthcare professionals to sharpen their skills in environments that closely replicate real-world conditions, preparing them to operate effectively under pressure.”
By using one’s own hands within the simulation instead of controllers or other mediaries, the simulation intends to sharpen motor skills within virtual spaces that replicate emergency scenarios.
Some procedures involved require fine motor skills that necessitate extensive training, such as IV cannulation, airway management, and surgical interventions.
BlueRoom CEO Benjamin Krynski said: “We are thrilled to sign this agreement with Aspen Medical, another innovative Australian company, that we know will strengthen military medical training capability around the world.
“Aspen Medical will join our existing partner in the region, Leader Healthcare, whose technical, engineering and market experience will complement this initiative to bring our cutting-edge capability to the end user.”
