Archive unveils Autumn program

The National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) has released its program for Autumn which includes an event on International Women’s Day discussing gender equality in the arts.

The program also includes Carriberrie (pictured), a free immersive virtual reality film that celebrates Indigenous song and dance, to run until 1 June.

Introduced by actor David Gulpilil, Carriberrie features 156 dancers and 36 performances, representing nine cultural groups, and encompassing both traditional ceremonial song and dance and contemporary and modern expressions.

The original costumes from the hit film, The Dressmaker will be unveiled at the NFSA on 18 April. The exhibition, designed by Marion Boyce, features a range of haute couture worn by the film’s stars and will be on show until 18 August.

International Women’s Day will be marked with an all-female panel and the Canberra premiere of the 2018 Australian documentary Her Sound, Her Story, discussing issues of equality in the arts.

Film critic, David Stratton is to be at the NFSA this Saturday (2 March) discussing his new book, 101 Marvellous Movies You May Have Missed, followed by a screening of his documentary, David Stratton: A Cinematic Life.

Award-winning director, producer and writer, Jocelyn Moorehouse is to sit down with 2017 Canberra Citizen of the Year, Alex Sloan in May to talk about her book, Unconditional Love Memoir, about movies, motherhood and raising children with autism.
