The Education Directorate has welcomed 120 new educators to its ranks for 2019, ensuring they came together in the first week of Term One to get off on the right foot.
In a statement, the Directorate said that during the gathering the new staff members learnt about the ACT public education system and the opportunities available to them as new educators, as well as being able to network with other colleagues and school leaders.
“The new educators will fill teaching roles across the ACT’s 88 public schools,” the Directorate said.
“While the majority of the new teachers are recent graduates, there are also teachers who have made the move to Canberra from other teaching roles.”
It said many of them shared stories of their first day as a teacher, as well as their hopes and dreams for the year.
Among the newcomers was Ajay Joshi (pictured) who said his first day at Yarralumla Primary School was “spectacular”.
“It couldn’t get any better, the kids were perfect”, he said.
Lauren Wells, at Giralang Primary School, said she was looking forward to seeing her students grow — “growing their brains, growing their bodies, and growing together as a group”.
The Directorate said the skilled and dedicated staff recruited would be key contributors in providing every Canberra child and young person with a high-quality education.
