The Education Directorate has used Back-to-School Week to remind parents and carers that it has resources available to assist ACT students start or transition through school.
The Directorate said its Starting School Guide was filled with useful information for parents and carers about preparing their children as they began their formal schooling.
“Resources to help students starting high school and college are available from the Transition Services and Programs in Schools page on the website,” the Directorate said.
Principal of the new Margaret Hendry School, Kate Woods (pictured) offered this advice for those starting school
“My one piece of advice is to go into school being optimistic,” Ms Woods said, “so thinking about all the fantastic opportunities that you will have there, the new friends that you will make and the ways in which you will grow and develop over the course of the year.”
Margaret Hendry School, located in Taylor, caters for students from preschool to Year 6.
“My priority is to connect everyone to the Margaret Hendry School Community through our four pillars for learning — grow, collaborate, connect, love,” she said.
“Together we will determine the school culture and define who we are as individuals and how we are together.”
The Education Directorate also revealed that new additions had been made to the Junior Campus at Gold Creek School.
State-of-the-art adaptable learning spaces will hold four classes, featuring a co-learning central area allowing students to learn together, and in addition, the junior campus now had basketball courts as well as landscaping for the new areas.
