Transport Canberra and City Services has announced that Canberra Tree Week 2018 is to be held from 30 April to 6 May.
The Directorate said the Week was an annual celebration of all things trees and it encouraged the community and visitors to appreciate, admire and enjoy them.
“This year’s celebrations include a variety of events, ranging from guided walks, a symposium, Hug a Tree Day and many more,” the Directorate said.
“We invite you to join the celebrations by getting out amongst our beautiful trees and participating in the many events throughout the week.”
It said that among the events would be a guided walk of the English Gardens in Weston Park hosted by Friends of ACT Trees; a tree-themed story time at Erindale Library, with rhymes and songs suitable for children aged three-to-five and their parents or carers; and a guided tour of the National Arboretum, exploring some of the most significant trees from around the world, planted there.
The Directorate said there would also be a walk through Campbell Park, looking for and recording trees with hollows and noting any birds, organised by Friends of Grasslands.
It said participants were urged to bring binoculars, a camera (with GPS if possible), a pen, clipboard and drinking water and wear bushwalking footwear and attire. Bookings by 30 April for the walk are essential.
