Adelaide public transport users can now pay for public transport with just a few clicks on the new Adelaide Metro Buy & Go app.
The new functionality was launched on 23 February for those passengers who don’t have a metroCARD.
The Adelaide Metro Buy & Go app is free to download and allows passengers to select ‘Regular’, ‘Concession’ and ‘Student’ fares, ‘Daytrips’ and ‘3-Day Visitor Passes’. Up to five tickets can be validated at once on the same phone using the same Visa or Mastercard credit/debit card.
There is no cost premium for tickets bought on the Adelaide Metro Buy & Go app.
When boarding an Adelaide Metro bus or tram, the activated ticket will generate a QR code which must be scanned on the smart validator as the passenger boards. Inspectors will be able to randomly check that passengers’ tickets have been validated by scanning the QR code.
South Australian Minister for Infrastructure and Transport and Minister for Energy and Mining Tom Koutsantonis said the new ticket app was a big step in creating a smarter, easier and more accessible public transport network for customers that encouraged many more people to use the services.
“The Adelaide Metro Buy & Go app is a great new option for customers to easily buy their tickets and go – especially if they are traveling with family and friends,” he said.
“With festival season upon us, this app is a great way for users to hop on board a bus or tram and get into the city safely and hassle-free.
“While many customers have naturally transitioned to a metroCARD or ‘Tap and Pay’, we know there are still some customers out there who are looking for single trip tickets,” he added.
“That is why we are offering an alternative purchasing solution, one that complements the other easy ways to pay and helps people make the transition away from paper Metro tickets.
“We are looking to further progress this app in the future to make it a one-stop shop for all public transport travel needs.”
