The Australian Army’s former Director General of Executive Training Authority, Glenn Ryan has been appointed as the new CEO of Aviation Australia, replacing William Horrocks who has been CEO since 2010.
The aviation training organisation is a world-class registered training organisation that was established by the Queensland State Government in 2001 at Brisbane Airport. It provides training in maintenance engineering, piloting, cabin crew services, remote piloting and autonomous technologies.
Aviation Australia is a partner to more than 60 airlines and aerospace companies, governments, defence forces and regulatory authorities, with more than 1000 of its graduates working worldwide.
Mr Ryan left the Army in late 2023 after a long career in training and operational roles, including as Chief of Staff for Forces Command.
Chair of Aviation Australia Elsa Dalessio welcomed Mr Ryan, saying his capabilities and leadership qualities will play a major role in steering Aviation Australia towards a new era of growth and success. She said his appointment came at a transformative moment for the organisation, marked by a renewed focus on innovation and strategic advancement.
“Glenn has demonstrated a remarkable track record of driving performance improvements in complex environments. His expertise in enhancing systems, processes, and teams aligns seamlessly with Aviation Australia’s commitment to excellence and innovation,” said Ms Dalessio.
She also acknowledged Mr Horrocks’ role in Aviation Australia’s growth, saying that under his leadership, the company expanded its reach internationally and solidified its position as Australia’s leading aviation training provider.
Mr Ryan said he was honoured to join Aviation Australia as the new CEO.
“I look forward to working with the talented team at Aviation Australia, and the aviation industry, to drive innovation, foster growth, and uphold our commitment to excellence in aviation training,” he said.
Queensland Training and Skills Minister Lance McCallum said aviation was critically important to the Queensland economy.
“Maximising the potential of the state’s growing aviation industry relies on a skilled and job-ready workforce of Queenslanders,” he said.
“The government has partnered with Aviation Australia to deliver exactly that through our Gateway to Industry School and VET in Schools programs,” he added.
“With a new CEO in the pilot’s seat, I look forward to strengthening our partnership with Aviation Australia to inspire and train the next generation of Queensland-based aviation professionals.”
