This track is the first I’ve heard of Hurricane#1.
It’s the third single that they have released from their up-coming album Backstage Waiting To Go On which is due for release on June 16.
Hurricane#1 play an interesting jangly heavy-edged retro-rock reminiscent of classic high-energy Aussie pub-rock.
Tonight is good old fashion peddle-to-the-metal guitar rock complete with power guitar riffs and chords, thunderous drums, and strident vocals.
There’s an element of rawness about the track that suggests it’s been largely recorded to capture the band in live action.
The track’s high energy makes it a good preview for the album.
I have yet to hear the two previous singles, Everyone Laughed and Awake at 9, but if they live up to the quality of this track, and reviews suggest that they do, then the album should be one to look out for.
The blurb that came with the track claimed that the album ‘etches itself into your musical soul with just one listen because of its infectious upbeat attitude and irresistible catchy choruses.’
I suggest that Hurricane#1 have very cleverly tapped into the endless well of powerful straight-ahead rock and roll that we all love producing something that is instantly recognisable and appealing.
Guitar bands have had a resurgence of late because music consumers are searching for something that feels real.
Tonight is a good track because it comes across as genuine hard driving, no frills, rock and roll, which is precisely what it is.
No pretence, no unnecessary studio intervention.
I’ll review the album when a copy comes through.
