The Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) has launched a free training course to help Victoria’s Public Servants meet their digital record keeping responsibilities.
Launching the Digital Recordkeeping eLearning module, PROV said the course was a companion to its popular Recordkeeping Essentials training.
It said that while the training was relevant for all Victoria Public Servants, it would be of particular interest for recordkeeping and information management staff, as well as online communications teams responsible for websites or social media.
“This new training provides a high-level look at the requirements around digital recordkeeping,” the Office said.
“While linking closely to PROV Standards, it has been developed with a view that those outside of the records profession can pick up and gain a basic understanding of requirements, where to start and what to look at,” it said.
“The module will assist public offices in their journey to recognise and manage digital records lawfully, and to support all staff with responsibilities for managing business information systems and processes.”
PROV said the eLearning module had been divided into five parts, with each to take no more than 15 minutes to complete.
It said the course’s five components covered obligations and requirements; managing digital information; trusting the record; storing information securely; and disposal and retention.
“The course is designed so that you can pick and choose to do what sections are most relevant or of interest to you,” the Office said.
“However, if you want to receive the certificate of completion, you must do all five parts.”
