Two sisters representing Corrective Services WA have won a haul of medals at the recent Australasian Police and Emergency Services Games in New Zealand.
Drug Detection Officer, Marie Bullock won six gold, five silver and five bronze medals in the pool and athletics events, including high jump, shot-put and javelin.
She also picked up gold in the open-water swim where her Rottnest Channel Swim experience came in handy.
Ms Bullock (pictured) has worked at the Eastern Goldfields Regional Prison for four years and will soon be transferring to Bunbury Regional Prison.
Her sister Lani, a Prison Officer at Melaleuca Women’s Prison, also starred at the Games with an impressive 10 medals including five golds.
About 3,000 competitors from Australia, New Zealand, Cook Islands and New Caledonia took part in the Games at Rotorua that featured more than 60 events.
“It was the first time I participated and the second time for Lani. We found there was a good-natured camaraderie among the different Agencies and a great atmosphere,” Ms Bullock said.
“We were very active in between events as well, seeing a lot of the sights around Rotorua.”
Ms Bullock is part of the prison’s Drug Detection Unit, helping to deter, detect and disrupt the trafficking of drugs and other contraband into the State’s custodial facilities.
She hopes more Corrective Services staff will join their police and emergency services counterparts in the next Games, to be held in Hobart in 2025.
