Sharyn O’Neill has been appointed Public Sector Commissioner for a second five-year term.
Ms O’Neill (pictured) was first appointed Commissioner in July 2018 following 12 years as Director General of the Department of Education.
Premier, Mark McGowan said Ms O’Neill was implementing a significant reform agenda to ensure the public sector was robust, capable and fit for the challenges of the future.
“Continuing this strong, strategic leadership of the public sector is crucial as we continue our recovery from the pandemic and its global flow-on effects,” Mr McGowan said.
“The role of the independent Public Sector Commission is essential to help shape, build and regulate the public sector so it can effectively serve all Western Australians,” he said.
The Premier said that under Ms O’Neill’s leadership much had been achieved to support and guide the sector so it could meet the challenges of today and the future, and it was important for this work to continue.
“I thank Ms O’Neill for her significant contribution as State Recovery Controller that was crucial in our State’s successful management and recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Mr McGowan said.
Ms O’Neill’s appointment was approved by Western Australian Governor, Chris Dawson in his key constitutional role of presiding over the Executive Council.
