The Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning has developed a new website asking the public to submit ideas to increase housing supply.
The Housing Opportunities Portal provides a simple way to share ideas that can help improve the housing supply and unlock housing solutions throughout the State.
Anyone over 16 years of age, private enterprises, not-for-profit organisations and Local Governments can submit an idea.
In a statement, the Department said the ideas could address immediate problems; might require cross-Government collaboration, or be long-term solutions that would take time to deliver.
“Submissions will be assessed by the Department in consultation with relevant Agencies and may be referred to a cross-Agency working group for further consideration,” it said.
Minister for State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning, Steven Miles said he also wanted to hear from people who owned land or buildings that could be repurposed into housing.
“We’re looking for ideas with the potential to deliver new housing stock, whether that involves ways to free up land, repurpose existing buildings into housing, or brand-new concepts,” Dr Miles said.
“All solutions are welcome. We may find some ideas fit well together, or ideas are put forward that could take existing plans to new heights.”
He said the opportunities put forward could help to meet the housing needs of Queenslanders.
