The Department of Education has launched its new 2021-2024 public school planning cycle, promising a renewed focus on school improvement.
The Department said the Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning, Sarah Mitchell, Secretary of the Department Mark Scott and Deputy Secretaries of School Performance, Murat Dizdar and Cathy Brennan, live-streamed the cycle’s launch to support schools during the transition to the 2021-24 school planning and external validation.
“The 2021-24 cycle allows for alignment of the school planning and external validation to a four year cycle from 2021,” the Department said.
“[All schools will] develop a four year Strategic Improvement Plan during 2020, for approval by the end of Term One, 2021,” it said.
“[They will] have three terms during which they can unpack the School Excellence in Action material and develop their new plan.”
The Department said the strategic improvement planning process helped schools identify what they were doing well and what they could improve on.
“Schools set and prioritise goals aimed at improving student learning, growth and wellbeing,” it said.
“Every school will be supported in the process with new planning templates, sample plans and resources to guide the implementation of the school planning cycle.”
It said new resources had been released for schools and online reporting tools had been updated to improve functionality and simplify user experience.
“The new resources include a simpler planning template, sample plans, videos and animations to explain each aspect of School Excellence in Action,” the Department said.
