Police get taste of Apple technology

The Western Australia Police Force is partnering with Apple and Motorola Solutions to give officers access to police data and intelligence through CarPlay.

Minister for Police, Paul Papalia said the world-first initiative was part of the WA Police Force’s digital transformation, made possible by a Government allocation of more than $34 million to roll out personal-issue mobile smartphones to every operational police officer.

“These mobile devices will link in with CarPlay, allowing drivers to use voice commands to manage their response to incidents,” Mr Papalia said.

The Minister said officers responding to calls in the community would be able to arrive at the scene of an incident faster, with greater situational awareness about the incident as it was unfolding.

“This will save time and mean officers are better prepared for what they are confronted with,” he said.

“This is a major boost to policing and will ensure our police have the latest and most up-to-date information to rapidly respond to incidents in the community.”

He said the initiative was part of the digital transformation of the WA Police Force and just one of a number of Government plans to ensure police could do their jobs better and keep the public safe.

“I congratulate the technology giants of Apple and Motorola Solutions for working with the WA Police Force on this terrific partnership,” Mr Papalia said.
