The Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) has launched an incentive fund for State Agencies to support them in the implementation of more than 50 regulatory reform initiatives.

Announced by Minister for Regulatory Reform, Danny Pearson, DTF’s Regulation Reform Incentive Fund (RRIF) aims to provide Victorians with easier, faster and cheaper interactions when dealing with Government services.

“The reform will deliver Victorians wide-ranging benefits by reducing regulatory burden, including streamlined applications and approvals, improved access to information and faster operational licensing registration and renewals,” Mr Pearson said.

“The $40 million RRIF program will support more than 50 reform initiatives and is estimated to deliver up to $200 million of ongoing savings for Victorian businesses,” he said.

“These savings will come from quicker approvals and easier interactions with Government, expediting nearly 18,000 approvals per year and cutting wait times by nearly 30,000 days.”

Mr Pearson said Early Childhood Education, Real Estate, Conveyancing, Engineering, Taxis and Rideshare would have operational licences, renewals and registration digitised, which was expected to save up to 1.5 hours on each application.

Also in line for reform is the Department of Health’s online hospitality registration portal, Streatrader, with the Minister saying it would be expanded to incorporate hairdressers, tattooists and beauty therapists.

“The traffic management industry will save time and money with a dedicated online self-service site, reducing wait times on up to 15,000 applications per year,” he said.

“Consumers will also benefit from an online destination empowering Victorians to make more informed choices about building services – including trades, architects, lawyers and engineers,” Mr Pearson said.
