A new source of information about the architecture of Australia’s Federal relations has been launched by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C).
Opening the new website ‘federation.gov.au’, PM&C said it provided the latest updates on the National Cabinet, the National Federation Reform Council and other intergovernmental bodies.
“You can also find media statements, meeting outcomes and details on agreements between the Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments,” the Department said.
“This new resource reflects the changes to our Federal relations architecture and the way the Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments came together in response to the COVID-19 pandemic,” it said.
PM&C said the National Cabinet, established on 13 March last year, consists of the Prime Minister and State and Territory Premiers and Chief Ministers.
“On 29 May 2020, the National Cabinet agreed to cease the Council of Australian Governments (COAG),” it said.
“The National Cabinet also agreed to the establishment of the National Federation Reform Council, which consists of First Ministers and Treasurers across all jurisdictions, and the President of the Australian Local Government Association.”
PM&C said the changes gave leaders a platform to tackle priority Federation issues and address areas in need of reform.
