DTA hosts framework to protect data

The Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) has announced the release of a Hosting Certification Framework, offering Departments and Agencies the assurance that the whole-of-Government Hosting Strategy principles are in place and Government systems and data are secure.

In a statement, the DTA said it was supporting the Government’s commitment to ensure there were effective controls in place for the critical data holdings and systems that underpin the Government’s operations.

“This includes knowing how, where and when data is stored and achieving greater assurance over the operation and supply chains of providers,” DTA said.

“The Hosting Certification Framework will assist Government Agencies to mitigate against supply chain and ownership risks and enable them to identify and source appropriate hosting and related services.”

The Agency said the framework worked in conjunction with a suite of other policies and frameworks, such as the Foreign Investment Policy and the Protective Security Policy Framework.

It said that together, the systems reduced data sovereignty, ownership and supply chain risk; ensured Government hosting services were more efficient and cost-effective, and provided certainty on the Government’s hosting operating environment for both industry and Agencies.

“The DTA has developed the framework in consultation with Government and industry to ensure it meets the highest standards for data protection and security,” it said
