The Australian public is to be asked its views on proposed legislation supporting and strengthening an expanded Digital Identity system in Australia.
The Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) said that in order to help people who might want to express an opinion, it had released a public consultation paper on the proposed legislation.
In a statement, DTA said the Digital Identity legislation sought to further enhance existing privacy and consumer safeguards and establish permanent governance arrangements.
“Responses to the consultation questions outlined in the paper are invited from anyone with an interest in Digital Identity,” DTA said.
“More than 1.8 million Australians and 1.2 million businesses already have secure and quick access to more than 70 Government services using myGovID,” it said.
It said the proposed legislation would make sure all Australians had trust and confidence in the system as it expands to include State, Territory and private sector services.
“The Digital Identity Legislation Consultation Paper outlines key issues surrounding the development of the legislation and poses specific questions about its design, scope and content,” DTA said.
