The 20th anniversary of the Italian Film Festival has just begun screening at all Palace Cinemas in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne (TBC), Perth and Sydney and will conclude on 18 October featuring the best Italian films over the past year.
The major highlights include:
Pinocchio
A live action version of the classic fairy tale featuring the brilliant Robert Benigni as the woodcutter Geppetto.
The Traitor
The absorbing crime drama sees Pierfrancesco Favino deliver a powerhouse performance as Tommaso Buscetta, a Sicilian Mafia boss-turned-police informer.
Once Upon A Time….In Bethlehem
Completely different to the Tarantino film this sees the famous Italian comedy duo Ficarra and Picone feature as a thief and a priest who are magically transported to Palestine, in the year zero where they have to make sure that the birth of Jesus will follow its natural course.
The Goddess of Fortune
The crazy story of a gay couple asked to look after a friend’s two children left in their custody for a few days.
Ordinary Justice
An impactful drama from newcomer Chiara Bellosi, which examines the emotions behind the legal machinery at work in the courtroom following an attempted armed robbery.
