The Department of Education has released a new star ratings guide to help parents when choosing a childcare provider.

The Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning along with Wiggles character, Dorothy the Dinosaur launched the new ratings guide for the National Quality Framework (NQF).

The Minister, Sarah Mitchell said the Quality Ratings Guide would give parents access to more information about how childcare facilities rated under the NQF.

“Services will be required to display their quality rating in a prominent location, using the easy-to-follow star graphic,” Ms Mitchell said.

“Ensuring parents and carers can engage closely with services about the rating of their children’s education and care service is essential for improving quality,” she said.

“To help with increasing the focus on quality, services will also be asked to provide more detailed rating information to parents and families at enrolment from 1 July 2020.”

Ms Mitchell said the Quality Ratings Guide would display a childcare service’s overall NQF rating, as well as how the service was rated against each of the seven ‘quality’ areas.

Chief Executive for Early Childhood Australia, Samantha Page said the Quality Ratings Guide was a great way for families to “start a conversation” with childcare services.

Informational videos on the Quality Ratings Guide, as well as a ratings breakdown for NQF is available on the Department of Education’s website at this PS News link.
