A new cyber security training centre and tech-collaboration space have been launched at the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) in Reid, with the aim of addressing growing industry demands.
Announcing the CIT’s new Training Security Operations Centre (TSOC), Minister Assisting the Chief Minister on Advanced Technology and Space Industries, Mick Gentleman said $700,000 would be allocated to the facility which would help industry meet the estimated 20,000 job shortages nationwide in cyber security over the next 10 years.
“CIT has fast-tracked curriculum development and already trained 168 students since March to fuel this high-growth sector,” Mr Gentleman said.
“The addition of the TSOC will enhance student experience with a simulated workplace for real-world skills development.”
He said other partners in the $1.1 million venture included the Australian Cyber Security Growth Network Austcyber, Nova Systems, Fifth Domain, and the Australian National University.
“Capability within the facility will allow start-ups to showcase and test their new products to clients and will help future-proof Government and business through the upskilling of employees in cyber security training,” Mr Gentleman said.
“It includes a virtual classroom with a cloud-based security operations centre simulating real cyber threats, giving students the chance to work through real scenarios to gain nationally-accredited qualifications.”
He said the involvement of industry had been critical since the inception of the TSOC to ensure the right skills were being taught to fuel the demand in the fast-growing sector.
