Remembrance Day in Canberra this year is to be marked with a series of musical concerts around the suburbs as part of a national Stop the Nation commemoration.
Reflecting on the 100th anniversary of the armistice that ended World War 1 in 1918, 11 different concerts are to be held at 11am on the 11th of November.
Minister for the Arts, Cultural Events and Veterans, Gordon Ramsay met some of the band members set to take part in the event.
“Remembrance Day is a very important day on our events calendar, providing an opportunity to honour our veterans and their families,” Mr Ramsay said.
“I strongly encourage members of the Canberra community who are unable to attend the National Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial to attend one of these fantastic concerts.”
He said he hoped the concerts would be a spur for members of the community to take a moment to think of Australia’s veterans and the important sacrifice they made for their country.
The commemorations will be held from 11am to 11.45am at Yerrabi Ponds, Dickson Town Centre, Belconnen Markets, Haig Park, City Walk, the National Arboretum Canberra, Woden Square, Lanyon Marketplace, Tuggeranong Town Park, Old Bus Depot Markets and Gungahlin Town Centre.
