The Department of Transport (DoT) has announced more than 1,000 additional driving tests will be available at the Joondalup and Kelmscott Driver and Vehicle Services Centres, which will operate for seven days a week in the lead-up to Christmas.

In a statement, the Department said the additional Practical Driving Assessments (PDAs) would bring the total available to approximately 80,000 conducted in the metropolitan area before the end of the year.

It said the weekend bookings, available from 8am to 2.45pm, would be released each week for at least the next six weeks, with the staggered approach aimed at ensuring there were always short-term and longer-term appointments available for candidates.

The Department said candidates keen to secure a PDA should continue to check the real-time online booking system regularly over the coming weeks as the additional PDAs became available.

Minister for Transport, Rita Saffioti said current demand for driving tests was very strong.

“As a result, I am pleased to make more than 1,000 additional tests available before Christmas,” Ms Saffioti said.

“Getting a driver’s licence is not only an exciting rite of passage, it’s an important step in gaining many training and employment opportunities.”

The Minister encouraged candidates to be well prepared and experienced before attempting a PDA to give them the best opportunity to be successful the first time.

“The Government is committed to responding to changes in demand for driving tests to meet the needs of the community, and offering them seven days a week as required is an example of that commitment,” she said.

“I wish all the learner drivers preparing for their PDA the best of luck and hope their ‘P’ plates come as an early Christmas present,” Ms Saffioti said.
